Top Vacation Sights In The United States

Mar-10-2010 By Thomas Clarke

When setting about to travel around the nation, seeking to witness all the great natural and synthetic wonderment’s that the United States has got to extend, South Dakota and Mount Rushmore are certainly at the top of the list. Though your selections are expansive and the sites to explore are very diverse, there is something extraordinary about seeing the sculpted faces of those important presidents staring down at you from the mountain. This along with the varied monuments in Washington D.C. are something that everyone should try to experience at least once throughout their lifetime.

There are many other man made wonders that are also worth your time to visit. Starting with the arch in St. Louis, then the Empire State Building in New York. Of course, let us not forget to mention the recognizable lady of our country, The Statue of Liberty, in New York.

The launch pad at Cape Canaveral and a Space Shuttle launch is an amazing experience to see in person. There is just something about feeling the roar of the huge engines as it hurtles towards space. A day launch is cool, but seeing a launch that lights up the night or early morning sky is even cooler.

In that respect there are so numerous wonderful locations to explore as well as witness, only there’s something exceptional about Rushmore. Process on the carving commenced in 1927 and wasn’t finished till 1941. The approximated monetary value of the project equaled just below one million dollars and over four hundred tons of stone was abstracted to obtain the carving. Annually, according to the national park service, more than three million travelers go through the park and wonder at the accomplishment. The park is situated in the famed Black Hills of South Dakota and in that location there are numerous of outside activities for travelers to have.

There are organized events for visitors and if you sign up early enough and your application is accepted, your scout troop can participate in the flag raising ceremony in front of the monument. Many outdoor activities are available from hiking and fishing and camping in the camp ground area. It is a great learning experience and is truly a sight to behold and brings a sense of wonder and awe to children and adults of all ages. It is a piece of America and American history that should be experienced by every American.

Taking A Trip Along The East Coast

Feb-1-2010 By Thomas Clarke

Whenever someone visits the east coast on a vacation they tend to always lead to the state of Florida. Although Florida has a lot ot offer and is one of the largest tourist states in the whole US there is much more to the east coast than just this one state.

Instead of Florida, lets work out way up the Coast. The first stop will be Georgia. Georgia not only has some fabulous beaches, but it also is home to the large city of Atlanta. While visiting Atlanta you should try to take in a sporting event, since they have a professional team in all the major pro leagues. If you want to visit a smaller, and quaint little town then you should head to Savannah and get a true sense of southern charm.

North of Georgia is the Carolina’s. Both South Carolina and North Caroline has beautiful beaches and breath taking mountain scenery. There are many smaller and large cities depending on what your interests are. Right in between the two states is an area that is designed for travelers and families. This area is called South of the Border and has everything from little knick knack shops to restaurants, to amusement rides and accommodations. It is a fun time for all.

If these things aren’t enough, keep moving up the coast and I am sure you will find even more great things to do. Virginia is the next stop and has plenty of things to offer a traveler or vacationer. It also puts you really close to our nations capital, Washington D.C. With all the monuments and museums in D.C., it could take a normal person weeks just to see every exhibit in the Smithsonian.

Then of course there is always New York. New York has many wonderful areas to visit and some small towns, but the main New York attraction is New Your City, a.k.a Manhattan. While staying in Manhattan you can take in a Broadway show, get ticket to see the Late night shows on television, visit Rockefella Center and much more more. NYC is the city that never sleeps so you will be able to find entertainment, food and fun no matter what time of the day or night.

Cheap airfares are important right now because money is scarce and people are traveling for the holidays. Getting a cheap flight through Expedia is simple.

Best Family Vacation Ideas

Jan-28-2010 By Thomas Clarke

Picking out a great vacation for the family is not as easy as it sounds. There can be big differences in what everybody likes or wants to do. Now, taking out the fact that parents would like to do something relaxing and maybe even romantic, there are still things that are family friendly. Also, if anybody tries to talk you into taking a family vacation in Las Vegas, get as far away from them as possible. Do it quickly, nobody needs friends like that. That town is not appropriate for children and only single people should be allowed in the city limits.

So what does that leave, if you can’t go somewhere relaxing, romantic or to Las Vegas, where do you take the family? Well, there are plenty of places. Let’s assume that going overseas is not an option, for simplicity’s sake. That leaves you with fifty great states, cruises and even Canada, which contrary to popular belief, does have things to do for fun.

The obvious places are easy, the beach or mountains. Depending on where you live, there is the option of visiting the ocean along the east or west coast and along the Gulf of Mexico. For people who already live near the ocean, the mountains can be more of a draw. The Smokey Mountains for the eastern US and the Rockies for the west are great destinations. California even has its own range for people that live there. Spending a week in the mountains or at the beach can be a great vacation and there are so many things to do from skiing, water or snow, swimming, hiking and biking, to scuba diving and camping.

For people who want a little more structure and want all of their vacation in an easy to open container, a theme park or a cruise is a great option. These all inclusive vacations are easy to plan and easy to keep the agenda straight. You know exactly where you are going to be each day and you even know when and where you will eat dinner each night. It can take some of the stress out of a vacation, which is supposed to be relaxing to begin with.

These are all great family things to do and there should be something for everybody to do. Planning is easy as well, with just a few clicks of a mouse you can have everything done.

Traveling With The Family

Jan-28-2010 By Thomas Clarke

Summer is approaching quickly and many are looking to make vacation plans before there is no longer any flights or rental vehicles available. If you are considering this then you may want to consider finding a cheap car rental. You can find some of the best deals on auto rentals by following these simple tips:

1. Before you rent with a company sign up for their frequent travelers plan, as this will give you discounts and information on the promotions that are being offered. Once you receive your discount call around to other rental companies, as many of them ted to honor competitor promotions and offered discounts.

2. Look online for coupons or discounts. Sometimes you can locate them on coupon sites and other informational websites.

3. Check with some of the discount travel websites like Expedia, Orbitz, and Travelocity although this is a good place to search for the best rates, it is also wise to follow up with the actual companies themselves to make sure that they are really offering you the best possible deals.

4. Be flexible. This is the key to truly getting any type of travel discounts. The more you can shift things around the better deals you can find. Keep in mind that many car rental companies actually charge you less if you take the vehicle for longer. Weekend and week long rentals tend to be the best overall deals.

5. Always rent a car that is one grade lower then what you are looking for. For example, if you are wanting to rent a luxury car, instead of paying the extra money reserve a mid size vehicle. When you go to pick up your rental, you can then ask if they could upgrade you to a luxury. Many car rental companies will then offer you the upgrade for only a few dollars extra, as that will give them more money for a car that would not have even been rented.

Cheap flights are easy to get now through Expedia.com. International flights can get to be expensive, but with the best company, like Expedia, you can get great deals.

Travel destinations can take you too many exotic and faraway places, from China to Ireland and anywhere in between. But did you know that you could visit the Antarctic?

You can visit the Antarctic by taking a seven days cruise out of Australia. It is a long and demanding cruise along the open seas but once you arrive you will be given the opportunity of a lifetime. Once at the Antarctic you can travel across the ice and visit the original camps from the early explorers. Although this trip is a little to costly for the average budget, costing anywhere from ten to forty thousand dollars, it is a once in a lifetime experience.

Only a few hundred people a year get to see the spectacular sites of the eastern side of the Continent. There are other trips available from the South American side to the Antarctic Peninsula, which is a little bit easier of a trip. Either way, you get an adventure of a lifetime and you get to see things that most people never get to.

With so many great destinations around the world, it can be hard to pick where to go first. For football fans, the best time of year is just around the corner. The NFL playoffs are headed our way and there are plenty of great cities on the list of competing teams. Now is the time to get your tickets to visit theses great places. Arizona is playing this weekend and the beautiful city of Phoenix Arizona is an awesome place for a weekend trip. The city is a well known travel destination and is a beautiful city with plenty of attractions and things to do.

Another city that is a fun destination is Dallas, Texas. The Big D is a popular tourist destination and boasts some of the best night life and family attractions in the state of Texas. The New York Jets are traveling to Cincinnati, Ohio this coming weekend. Cincinnati is a great city, but maybe the summer time would be a better time to visit. It is extremely cold there and during the winter can be a bit harsh unless you just love the cold weather. The last game played this weekend will be in New England and will be a cold affair. Boston is a great city and is a perfect place to visit. There are so many historical and cultural sites that it is a city that should be on any ones list.

Cheap Flights from www.expedia.com make traveling during the holiday season to visit friends much simplier. You can just look online and check out their great discounts and even international flights.

What You Should Know When Traveling Overseas

Jan-13-2010 By Thomas Clarke

When taking a trip overseas, you are giving yourself a wonderful opportunity to broaden your horizons and experience things that are new and fascinating. In order to truly enjoy such an experience, however, you need to be able to get around any mishaps that may happen while you are traveling. Here are a few tips that will help you while you are on your overseas vacation.

You want to start planning by obtaining a valid passport at least two months before you are scheduled to leave for your destination. You should also look into the requirements for obtaining a visa, this way you will also have one ready should it be required for your stay. After this is all squared away you should then contact your insurance company to see if you are covered while visiting overseas destinations. You should also contact your physician to get a physical and any vaccinations that are required or that may be helpful. You will also want to make sure that you have a supply of medication to last during your stay, as well as information on getting refills should you happen to lose your medications.

Before leaving you should make two copies of your passport and itinerary. You will want to leave one with a family member or a friend who is staying at home and you will want to place the second copy in your luggage. Keep the originals in a separate place than the copies as you will not want to chance losing both sets. When traveling overseas your passport is the most important document that you have so be sure to keep it safe at all times. If you should happen to lose the passport you should take the copy that you made to the American embassy and request help on obtaining a new one.

Research your destination country, not only for tourist attractions and hotels, but to learn something about their laws. This will help you avoid trouble, especially getting through customs. You will pass through customs upon entering a foreign country, and upon returning to the USA. There are different rules for each country, as to what you can bring in or take out. Inform yourself of these rules before you leave.

When you are traveling to a destination that speaks a language you are not accustomed to you should probably travel in guided tours during your stay. Another helpful tip would be to always carry your itinerary with you. Although you may not be able to understand the residents int he area, and they may not be able to understand you, pointing to the word on your itinerary is a great way to effectively communicate.

Be knowledgeable of the currency, and be sure to exchange your money prior to making a purchase at your destinations. There is always a fee for theses transactions, therefore one of the best things you can do is utilize credit cards for all your purchases while you are on vacation.
