Remote Working Part 1 – The essential guide to working from anywhere (Intro)
Obviously not everyone is able to work remotely as many jobs require people to be at their office or travel to perform their duties in person. But for those of us are allowed to work remotely then I thought it would be useful to share what I have learned and offer some practical wisdom by distributing it on the net in the hope that I could give others helpful advice for adapting to remote working or supervising remote workers.
I must tell you you that there are many people out there who will try and sell you e-books for enormous sums of cash, believe me you don’t have to do this.
I am privileged to be able to work anywhere I choose and just about everyone who asks me what job I do wants to get an idea of how I manage to work remotely. Don’t be fooled here I am still developing the science of remote working as everyday I meet persons on the net who tell me about new knowledge and I am continually discovering new packages and methods that make my life simpler and increase my productivity.
In the past seven years I have slowly but surely adapted my working processes to allow me to do the majority of my work remotely with a portfolio of online tools and rigid self management. The discovery of web based ‘on demand’ small business accounting software was a significant event for me and the beginning of my ‘remote working career.
I want to state up front that efficiently working remotely is as much about the systems as it is about self discipline. Working remotely also means educating your colleagues, supervisors and clients as to what they can expect and how they will stay in touch with you.
In ‘Remote Working Part 2 – The art of working smarter ‘ I write about how to focus.
